Beat the January blues

‘Blue Monday’ is commonly known as the most depressing day of the year. On 21 January 2019, we’re challenging this by inviting fellow event professionals to join us for a day in the great outdoors – and turning a ‘blue’ Monday green!

Clients, agency partners and local businesses who sign up to attend the one-day event will enjoy an exclusive programme focusing on physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The day will feature a session by fitness instructor Frank Sinclair, who will explore the role exercise plays in mental and physical wellbeing and discuss how certain exercises can help reduce stress levels.

Following an afternoon outside exploring the forest, author of The Wellness Toolbox, Alison Swift, will share her tips on daily self-care, before attendees wind down with a relaxing yoga session in The Venue.

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting the power of the outdoors, ‘Space to Breathe’ reinforces recent research conducted in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University which explored the benefits of the natural outdoor environment. As part of the study, a systematic review found that even brief exposure to the forest has an impact on emotions, particularly chronic stress. Japanese concept ‘Shinrin-Yoku’ (forest bathing), which relates to spending time in the forest amongst the trees, is often recommended as a stress-reducing technique, something which was a key influence in the development of Space to Breathe.

Not everybody has a forest on their doorstep – ‘Space to Breathe’ is the perfect opportunity for us to share the benefits of time spent in the great outdoors while also providing event professionals with tips and techniques on day-to-day wellbeing.

‘Space to Breathe’ will take place at Sherwood Forest on Monday 21 January 2019 from 10am until 4pm, with attendees invited to enjoy free time in the forest afterwards.
